This treatment had three different types, ultrasound,
shortwave, and microwave. It is a form of physical therapy that is used for the
treatment of injured tissue. This procedure targets damaged tissue and it uses
heat or thermal therapy to relax tight tissues, increase blood circulation and
reduce swelling in the joints. This type of thermal therapy is used for muscle
tension, spasms, stiff joints and joint pains.
The Ultrasonic diathermy treatment uses high-frequency sound
waves to generate heat into the damaged tissues. The therapy process starts off
with the affected area being covered in a special conducting gel and then a rod
that emits the ultra sound waves is rubbed gentle over the affected area. The
treatment session lasts between 10 – 15 minutes. There is no pain felt by the
patients, there will only be a slight tingly feeling.
The Shortwave diathermy treatment is where a high frequency
electrical current is used to generate heat which in turn is used on the
tissue. This procedure can treat a large area of tissue or muscle that is affected or injured. There are two types of shortwave
diathermy, the condenser and the inductive coil method. The condenser method is
where two rods are positioned in the affected areas and the warming process
will treat the tissue that is in the middle of the rod. The inductive coil
method is where currents, that are produced by an electric coil is used to
treat the affected tissue. The therapy is administered to the skin using a
wand. This procedure may take about 20 minutes.
Microwave diathermy treatments use electromagnetic radiation
that is emitted by a wand that is directed at the affected area. This therapy
is used for localized injuries or small muscles and the treatment lasts between
20 – 30 minutes.
Diathermy Gold Coast treatment
is used mostly for sporting injuries such as joint pains, spasms, muscle
tension and pain, tendonitis and sprains. Other than sporting injuries it is
also used for rigid joint pains related to arthritis and bursitis. The thermal
therapy will increase blood flow to the injured area and will control swelling
and soothing the tissue around the injury and quicken the healing process.
Pregnant women should not opt for this sort of therapy.
